Basic Skills Instruction

The Little Falls Township Public Schools is committed to helping every student achieve academic success. Our Basic Skills Instruction (BSI) program is a collaborative support and intervention program designed to provide targeted academic assistance for general education students who need additional support in reading, writing, and mathematics.

BSI provides supplemental instruction that is tailored to meet each student's unique learning needs while promoting growth toward grade-level expectations, the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, and district benchmarks. Instruction is delivered through small-group, evidence-based interventions using both in-class support and pull-out instructional models during the regular school day.

Students may be identified for BSI services through a variety of measures, including:

• District and classroom assessment results
• Classroom performance and report card data
• Teacher recommendations and observations
  

Parents and guardians are notified in writing if their child is identified to receive Basic Skills Instruction services before support begins.

Students receive support for as long as needed and are exited from the program once they demonstrate grade-level proficiency. After exiting, student progress continues to be monitored to ensure continued success within the general education classroom.  We partner with students, families, and teachers to ensure every child receives the support needed to grow, succeed, and reach their full potential.
